Due to Hurricane Sandy, my talk at University of Northern Iowa has been postponed.  I understand they are going to have a wonderful party and lecture on animal camouflage though!  I am sorry I can’t be there!

A colleague shared this with me today:

“The Detroit artist group Design 99 have been decorating abandoned houses with colorful surface decorations to keep out vandals. They compare the strategy to WWI ships. Here’s an example.”

I will be giving a talk on Halloween at the University of Northern Iowa.  It is free and open to the public, so if you are in the neighborhood stop by.  There is an exhibition of student posters for the event currently up as well as an exhibit on camouflage.  For more information see: http://www.uni.edu/artdept/gallery/Calendar.html

I was invited to talk by Roy Behrens, Professor of Art at UNI, RISD Alum, and camouflage scholar.   I highly recommend his new book Ship Shape: A Dazzle Camouflage Sourcebook.

I want to highlight one student’s work, Francisco Moreno (MFA Paint 12).  In the past year he has been exploring dazzle in his paintings and installations.  For more images, click here.
